Refugee Peer Northwest (RPNW) has an outreach agreement with the City of Kent’s Walker/Roller safety program. This initiative is part of the Walker/Roller grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission. Under this agreement, we aim to enhance traffic safety knowledge among Afghan refugees and immigrants through community workshops, public awareness campaigns, social media outreach, community engagement, and photo competitions.
All community support programs at Refugee Peer Northwest are in plain language, culturally appropriate, and offered in Dari/Pashto. The Afghan community, being young and high-risk in terms of traffic safety, faces various challenges in accessing services and understanding traffic laws due to cultural, linguistic, social, and economic barriers.
Refugee Peer Northwest is determined to advocate for the newly arrived Afghan refugees through different community supports related to social determinants of health. Please join our Facebook page to access the content, attend the workshops, and other community engagement events. Feel free to reach out to us if you need more support and resources about walker/roller safety.
