Promoting First Relationship

Refugee Peer Northwest (RPNW) received a contract from King County to attend the year-long Promoting First Relationships (PFR) program, in which two of RPNW’s current staff will be certified PFR providers.

PRF is an evidence-based program offered by the University of Washington’s Parent-Child Relationship Programs at the Barnard Center. PFR uses a reflective parenting approach, focusing on caregiver-child interactions, attachment, and relationship quality, designed to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills they need to nurture healthy, secure relationships with their young children.

The Afghan community is a young community with at least one kid aged 0-5, and Refugee Peer Northwest is determined to promote PFR goals and help parents to not only ensure young children have social emotional wellbeing, but also help parents to enjoy parenting through a secure and healthy relationship between parents and kids.

Refugee Peer Northwest is determined to advocate for the newly arrived Afghan refugees through different community supports related to social determinants of health. Please join our Facebook page to access the content, attend the workshops, and other community engagement events. Feel free to reach out to us if you need more support and resources about walker/roller safety.
