Central to our mission is addressing the social determinants of health that newcomers often face, such as access to healthcare, education, and emotional support. We understand that integrating into a new society is not just about surviving—it’s about thriving. Our program provides a wide range of services aimed at helping individuals overcome challenges and become self-sufficient, mentally healthy, and contributing members of society.
One of the key aspects of our program is mental health support. Newcomers often face trauma from their experiences in their home countries and during their journeys. To help them heal, we offer informal mental health support, such as healing circles, social gatherings, and sports activities. These activities provide a sense of belonging and emotional healing while fostering strong community bonds.
We also place a strong emphasis on community education. Our partnership with King County’s government allows us to help newcomers understand important issues such as exposure to hazardous chemicals like lead and PFAS. By providing education on these matters, we ensure that individuals can make informed decisions about their health and environment.
Our program also focuses on youth resiliency. We offer one-on-one sessions to guide youth in navigating the US healthcare system, supporting them with college and university applications, and connecting them with a network of refugee graduates who provide mentorship. These initiatives help young people build the resilience and skills they need to thrive in their new country.
At Refugee Peer Northwest, our comprehensive program is about more than just providing services—it’s about empowering individuals to take control of their lives and create a future filled with opportunity and success. By supporting newcomers in every aspect of their journey, we are building a stronger, more resilient community for all.
