Prenatal Community Outreach

Refugee Peer Northwest (RPNW) signed a community education agreement with the Developmental Disabilities and Early Childhood Support Division in the King County Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) to develop and host community workshops related to culturally responsive Healthy Childhood Development, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health, and Racial Equity for Afghan refugees living in King County. Likewise, RPNW staff prepare weekly audio, video, and printed social media content on the above-mentioned topics and publish on Facebook (Meta), Instagram, and YouTube.

 
All community support programs at Refugee Peer Northwest are in plain language, culturally appropriate, and offered in Dari, Pashto, and English. The Afghan community, being young and high-risk in terms of accessing equitable health services and faces various challenges due to cultural, linguistic, social, and economic barriers.


Refugee Peer Northwest is determined to advocate for the newly arrived Afghan refugees through different community supports related to social determinants of health.
